Standing out on socials and attracting the right clients is SO hard in the interior design space. And as an interior and architectural photographer, I’m constantly watching what y’all are up to on that little app… I’m here to make your life easier.
One thing I’ve noticed is that interior designers are holding their professional photos at gunpoint and making them do all the heavy lifting of their design marketing. The consequence?
Introducing my new series: What I’d post on Instagram if I was an Interior Designer who wanted REALLY great clients with style (or for short, what I’d post on instagram if I was an interior designer… oh my gosh, that’s not short at all!).
This is one of the easiest ways to post consistently, look like the expert you are, and low-key tell your audience what kind of projects you want more of. Without begging.
A round-up is a great way to “editorialize” your portfolio, create content from inspiration, and communicate your specific style to potential clients.
It’s a themed list focusing on one small aspect of design. But most importantly it is part of your storytelling efforts which attracts clients to your whole business.
Once you pick a design style or topic that you care about (or want more of in your portfolio) and group together a handful of examples, you have your post. These can be past projects, iPhone shots, Pinterest inspo whatever. The point is to tell a visual story and give people a reason to care.
This is your chance to editorialize your own work. You’re not just throwing up pretty pictures. You’re curating. You’re taking a stance. You’re building brand authority without having to blow dry your hair again to film more B-Roll for reels (ugghghghghgh).
Just don’t phone it in. Your enthusiasm has to be real. If you’re not jazzed about Moroccan tile, don’t write a post about it. (Obviously.)
Round-ups are part of your story-telling effort to staying visible, showing off your taste, and reminding people what you bring to the table. Bonus, they also make for great evergreen content you can recycle like the marketing genius you are.
Make 5 round-up posts that feature:
Schedule them. Post them. Go back to ignoring Instagram until the algorithm blesses you again.
Round ’em up and move ’em out. 🤠
